The Clark North American is the first four-season hammock and the most versatile tent ever built. Whether you are expecting six feet of snow or tropical conditions, the North American will serve you well. Every North American comes with two features you'll find nowhere else: First, the deployable WeatherShield zips in to transform the hammock into an enclosed tent, providing warmth, a wind break, or extra protection from rain and snow. Second, the insulating pocket system keeps you warmer in cold weather, removing the need for insulating pads.

The North American's insulating pockets double as storage space for your gear. These six pockets are located underneath the hammock where you may store your boots and other gear during the night. Two more pockets are located inside the hammock, handy for storing anything from a flashlight to a pistol. The North American's ropes are our strongest polypropylene (1700 lb. test).

Features:

Waterproof sil-nylon rain fly is detachable; water-resistent, breathable WeatherShield; six large pockets underneath hammock bed designed to store gear and provide insulation against the cold; two interior pockets for small items; full No-See-Um netting has double zippers for highest level of versatility; 1700 lb. test polypropylene rope; no-tip design; built-in stuff bag system; anti-stress bungee cords.

Optional additions:

Extra-large rain fly; Camouflaging; tree straps

I bought my NA about 8 years ago. I have since spent almost a year of my life sleeping in it. It radically changed the way I backpack. I will never again sleep on the cold hard ground. I have used it in everything from 100+ degrees down to 17 and it has kept me comfortable in it all.

I only had it leak one time after 2 weeks of rain in the mountains of California. I woke up to a drip on my face and discovered that the rain had turned to snow during the night. I knocked off the 3 inches or so that were weighting down my fly, and the drip stopped.

Some friends invited me to camp with them in the Smokey Mountains of NC and I got lots of ribbing about my "silly" hammock. My friends used a large fancy ground tent. During the night the worst storm I have ever camped in came up and it literally blew so hard up the side of the mountain that it rained UP. My friends labored all night trying to keep their fly staked and to stay dry. I simply raised my weather shield and bungee'd my fly down and held on for a rough ride. I eventually slept quite well even though the thunder woke me several times, but the rocking from the wind actually helped me sleep through most of it.

I've got more stories about my hammock, but you get the idea. This is by FAR the best piece of kit I ever bought! It is expensive compared to some gear, but it will, without a doubt, pay for itself in the long run. It is so tough that it could be considered heirloom. I have no doubt one of my kids will be using my NA long after I am gone.
