UNIQUE FEATURES

Mosquito-proof bed fabric

Clark's quality bed fabric is more durable, less stretchy, and won't let mosquitoes eat you for lunch.
Clark Outdoor introduced it's mosquito-proof bed fabric in June of 2008. Clark is the first and only brand that offers this level of mosquito protection. The fact is, you simply do not have a real jungle hammock if every hungry mosquito can simply bite your bare skin through the bottom of your hammock. Other companies will tell you to wear thick clothing or use a pad to keep mosquitoes away. This is really bad advice since mosquitoes are at their worst when weather is hot and muggy. Some companies try to keep mosquitoes off with dangerous chemicals. Some try with two layers of cheap fabric. However, two layers of cheap fabric can't keep mosquitoes away any better than one layer. A hammock with a double bottom is also a bad idea because the second layer of fabric acts as an insulator which keeps you from feeling cooling breezes in the hot weather when mosquitoes are at their worst.

There is only one lightweight camping hammock on earth with mosquito-proof bed fabric, as proven by a respected lab. It's the original maker of lightweight camping hammocks: the Clark Jungle Hammock company.

Best of all, Clark's mosquito-proof bed fabric is more durable and safe than fabric you can find on other brands. Clark hammocks always have a bed fabric that is higher than 2 oz. per yard. If your hammock bed is made of 1.7 oz or 1.1 oz fabric, it is not intended to last nearly as long as a Clark hammock will. Even worse, 1.7 oz and 1.1 oz fabrics will stretch much more than quality Clark bed fabrics. Stretchy bed fabrics turn you into a banana, forcing you to angle yourself in the hammock to overcome the cheap bed. Why not buy a hammock with a quality bed so you can sleep flatter?

The Clark North American's Insulating Pocket System

Why do I need Insulating Pockets?
Hammocks face different challenges than conventional tents. When deployed in temperatures of 50° F / 10° C or lower, the bottom of a hammock becomes exposed to the cold air where your body needs warmth the most. A high quality sleeping bag can help, but since your weight compresses the sleeping bag’s material, you’ll still have very little protection from a cold wind. The Clark North American’s insulating pockets double as storage areas for boots and other gear.

How do the Clark North American’s Insulating Pockets work?
Clark's patented pocket design locks in a stable air mass below you to deflect cold air that would otherwise cool the hammock material below your back. When you add a high quality sleeping bag, you can avoid having to buy cumbersome insulating pads and liners.

Why don’t the Clark North American’s Insulating Pockets cover the entire base of the hammock?
The Insulating Pockets are only intended to insulate the area beneath the heaviest part of your body ( the area where your sleeping bag is likely to compress). Your legs do not need the extra insulation from the pockets because they do not press heavily against the hammock bed and your sleeping bag.

Does the Clark have other features to keep me warm?
The breathable WeatherShield, which comes standard on the North American model, is just one more way that the Clark keeps you warm in cold temperatures. The WeatherShield encloses the hammock to create a true tent to give you privacy and extra protection from cold and moisture.

Versatility

The Clark’s versatile rain fly, mosquito netting and WeatherShield allow you to face a wide range of conditions. Check out the "Phases slideshows" for the North American, Tropical and UltraLight models to see how the Clark transforms to meet your needs.

WeatherShield: an extra level of protection

What is the WeatherShield?
The Clark Jungle Hammock’s WeatherShield is a breathable, water repellent layer that zips over the mosquito netting, transforming your hammock into a true tent. The WeatherShield provides extra protection from moisture, wind and cold. It also offers privacy. The WeatherShield can be deployed halfway when you only need a little extra warmth, or on just one side when you need a windbreak. While the rain fly comes standard on all models, the WeatherShield does not.

Why do I need a WeatherShield?
The Clark Jungle Hammock, with its waterproof rain fly, can keep you perfectly dry without a WeatherShield. The WeatherShield is most useful to those who anticipate cold weather (50° F / 10° C or below). The warmth provided by the WeatherShield is complemented by the North American model's insulating pockets. You may also wish to have the WeatherShield available if you need extra protection from strong winds or blowing rain.

Where does the WeatherShield store when not in use?
When you don’t need the WeatherShield, simply unzip and store it the pockets which surround the foot-end hood of the hammock. The WeatherShield is a permanent feature of the hammock (adding about 6 oz.) that cannot be completely detached.

Which models come with the WeatherShield?
The WeatherShield comes standard on the North American model and is optional when you order a Tropical model.
